Comparing numbers is a skill that most students learn, throughout their education. This is a skill we continue to be built on. In my state we teach varying skills of comparing numbers from kindergarten up into 4th grade. Some years I have students who have this skill mastered so well that I only need to focus on the few students who still struggle with it. There are also years that I need to start from scratch and teach comparing numbers beginning with the vocabulary.
As we emerge on what could be a completely digital school year, I created a google slide that helped me solve my teaching comparing numbers problem. When I created this product I was sure to put in vocabulary cards for students who need the reinforced. I also made sure to add plenty of practice and the best bonus is you can edit this product to create your own slides. With this feature you can easily diffrentiate for studes of evry level.
Learning the Vocabulary is Key
This product features 4 vocabulary slides, each with the vocabulary word and definition. You can review the slides each day. You can even print them out and place them on the walls for students use and see each day. I add to our daily word wall practice. We used fun songs like The Greater than, less than song. My students like this one, it has a nice beat they can dance to, lol! You can listen to this song every day to reinforce the vocabulary. We played it after recess and I even played it on my phone during bathroom breaks. Within a few days, my students, had it memorized. Using this song along with the daily vocabulary practice my students learned these vocabulary words in no time.
Super Flexible Design
This product has 20 slides of comparing numbers slides for students to practice with. I desgined this product to be flexible. You can use this product on your whiteboard in a whole group setting or you could teach them from your iPad with a small group. You can even assign the activity of this comparing number in the google classroom and grade it. I know the struggle of trying to get weekly grades so I wanted to make sure I created something you could also take a grade on.
Easy to Differentiate
As a teacher I am always looking for assignments that I can use to assess my students understanding. This is one of the major reasons I created this product, for you nut for me too. I needed a way to assess my students. I needed to be able to differentiate how I assess students at various levels. This is why this product is also partially editable. Simply make a copy of one of the slides, and replace the numbers with any that you choose. For students who are struggling you can make the numbers smaller and focus on the skill. For students who need a challenge, you can make number with multiple digits. This is a product you can use over and over again. You have the freedom to adjust the slides to differentiate for students at any level. You can use this lapbook to differentiate reading too.
Let me be honest, I originally created this product to meet MY (and my students’) needs, but as I was creating I realized I couldn’t be the only teacher with this problem. This product solved 3 problems for me, teaching vocabulary, being flexible enough for small or whole group and making differentiation simple. I used this product with my students this week, they were engaged and every single one turned them in the day it was assigned. They were excited to discuss it in class the next day. I was able to make sure my struggling students has success with this assignment, so everyone was able to participate in the discussion. As a teacher, it made me so happy to see all their smiling faces, they were so proud of their accomplishment.
