Going back to school during a pandemic is something most of us were not prepared for nor would we ever imagine it as a way of life. As humans we are resilient by nature. Our ancestors survived centuries through famine, disease, enslavement and world wars. So, resilience is in our DNA.
This year we have some really hard decisions to make about educating our children. Whether you decide to send your kid to school, participate in virtual school or home school, these decisions are tough. You have to choose the best option for your family.
Regardless of what option you choose, we will all be “doing” school in a few short weeks. So why not create a space that encourages back to school organization no matter where you educate your kiddos.
Create a Work Hub
Create a work hub for your children’s supplies and materials. A work hub is an area in your home designed to contain all the things you and your children need for school.
In your child’s physical classroom their teacher has an area where students can get extra supplies and where pencils, paper, and any materials for class are stored. You can create an area like this in your house with a few supplies and minimal space. At our house, our work hub consists of a row on a bookshelf and a small bit of wall space. I have a basket for the kids’ laptops or tablets, a school box with pencils, markers and supplies, and a folder for paper and work hub our checklist. Create a Schedule
Once you have all the details of your kids’ school schedule create one master schedule for the family. This schedule would include what each child does each day. Creating One Master schedule is a good idea especially if your kids are in different schools and grade levels. Who wants to manage a million schedules for each child, and for each thing. Ain’t nobody got time for that. For example, You can list what days “Johnny” will be attending class virtually, and what day “Susie” will be turning in her writing assignment or what day “Little Billy” will be meeting with his online teacher. One schedule in one place makes it much easier to stay organized and on top of everyone’s assignments.
Keep Important info Handy
Do you know your child’s computer log-in information? How about their school’s helpdesk number, did you know there was a help desk number? Lol, me either. There are already sooo many numbers, passwords and log-ins to remember, now multiply that by a couple of kids all in different schools and that’s a ton to remember! Keeping it in one place ensures you can find it and your kids can too. “I can’t remember my login” will never be an excuse your kids can use again! Be sure to keep teacher info for each child handy, too. In the case that, something doesn’t work you will have their number or email at arm’s length.
We know this school year will look a lot different, at times we may get frustrated and be ready to give up, but don’t. Use these back to school organization tips to make a small part of going back to school easier. Create a work hub, create a schedule, and keep important info handy. I know this year is scary but we got this! Be Blessed!
